recently i have been thinking about going on to further education, i had been told about the HND graphic design and advertising course at Canterbury College and it sounds perfect because i won't have to travel far and i know the are well as i go to college there to, this is my top choice.

Baskerville font posters

this poster i created on illustrator, and really found it easy to create. i used the typeface baskerville throughout this poster. i like how it looks neat and tidy and i think that the black and grey goes really well with each other.

i was told to add colour to my posters so i added a bit of red and black to complement it. i used a capital letter as the centre image and added type to the two empty areas, about the history of baskerville and the "lazy dog". i like how it is all centralised.

UCA maidstone

this map shows what journey i must take from my village to maidstone, were the UCA is.I need this so i can go to a open day on the 23rd of november, from 1pm-4pm. over universities i am interested in are university of kent and canterbury christ church university, i am looking to go to a university that is near home, as i dont want to leave home quite yet.

i basically went round the original with a pentool and added any colour i want, i choose this colour as an example.

olympic value poster designs

this poster design was inspired by the word respect, i created the hands by using the pen tool going round and existing picture and adding my own colour to show contrast.and then i added the words that relate to respect in the background.

this is a poster inspired by the word courage, i got alot of words relating to the word and then added the word courage over the top in the center to make it look like the words are running around it.

life drawing

in todays lesson we did a life drawing of a nude model, in which i created alot of different drawings using different mediams like pencils and different coloured chalks. i was very pleased by the way my pieces came out especially my last drawing which i was given an hour to do, this gave me the opportunity to add more detail, form,line and shade.i was perticulary happen that the proportion of my drawings were correct too.

olympic tennis stamp design 1

this is my first Olympic stamp design that i created on illustrator with the inspiration of the julian opie style figure. what i wanted to do was create a figure with separate shapes creating a image. i first gave it a white out line and blue background but then changed it to a black background and black outline. i believe it went well and i believe i can make it even better probably using the Olympic rings in the background.

this is another design i created for the Olympics i would say it is not my favorate but it works. i think the position i took the pic from was good as it looked like she was bowling it at me.

this is a poster design i created for equality and diversity.i am happy with the shilloutes and i like how they all have there own characteristics. and i like the neatness of it and that its simple and not crowded.

personal statement

My personal statement
Hello, my name is Charlie Thompson and I am currently studying at Canterbury College doing a national diploma in graphic design, it is a 2 year course. I have spent a long time thinking about going to university after college to carry on studying graphic design, as I feel that I have a true passion and interest for it and that I feel that it is not a career or a hobby, but a passion, a way of life.
In my spare time I always experiment with different arts like drawing doodles anything random, I also like to pictures of objects that catch my eye or I think looks interesting. I also like to create large paintings of surreal things as that are the subject that I’m confidant of doing. I hope to continue my studies in my chosen field and in my future I hope to pursue a carrier in this field.
Before college I went to the the North school in Ashford were I studied fine art, graphic design and photography and obviously the designated subjects like English, maths etc. This is where my passion for art and design started and then I new what field to take up into fervour education.
At the moment I am currently a garden contractor which I find is a great job for a young lad like me as I love being in the outdoors and getting some exercise, I do this job on apart time basis as I have to fit it round my college days.
I have been lucky to live in a different country, Cape Town, south Africa for 7 years of my life and in these years I got to experience a different culture and some beautiful sceneries, but unfortunately could not learn to speak the local language Afrikaans fluently, I would say cape town had a huge influence on me and inspired me to pursue art and design.
I live in a little village outside Ashford called brook where I live in the local pub called the Honest Miller with my three sisters, mum and dad and a zoo of animals ranging from horses to gin pigs, using the pub me and my family do lots of fundraisers usually for are local hospice as I believe a little donation can make a big impact on people’s lives. I am a very active person and love my sports, I currently play cricket for my local village that I’ve been playing for the last 3 years. I also play tennis for Wye (village near brook).
I believe that you can do no wrong in art and design as it can be translated into millions of different ways.
I believe it will be a great carrier choice, and believe I can make it in the industry.

julian opie portraite

this is one of the first designs i have ever created on illustrator, it is a portrait of my self in a julian opie style.i found it difficult to do as i had never used a mac before, got frustrated doing it.

day of the dead poster

this poster design is from my ethnic art project and i would say is the most detailed and illustrative design i have ever made.but i can tell you it took a long time to create especially the filling with paint on illustrator, as there was some many areas that needed specific colors.

this is a design i created in my retro project. we were told to create a design for a brand of are choosing, in my case i choose ipod.i tried to make it as retro as possible using the bright colours and eye catching illustrations.
